Oops, I did it again!

Just over one year ago I started researching organizations that worked with orphans worldwide. I felt called to utilize my talents in a way that would be beneficial. I specifically was looking to work with an organization that could utilize me as a Spanish Translator/Interpreter. I found Host Orphans Worldwide and from there, I was interviewed and started working with them. I first worked by being a child advocate and speaking with the children who would visit the US for different sessions to make sure that all was going well while they were here (as they were much more comfortable speaking their native language).

From there, I was asked to go to the Dominican Republic with them in August 2024. I was able to see the orphanage and, from my perspective and from what I was told, was an asset on the trip! I met a number of children and interviewed more than 15 children to participate in the hosting program. While I was not exactly thinking about hosting for the upcoming session, an opportunity presented itself and here we are!

Meet Edwin (left) and José Manuel (right). Edwin is 16 years old and José Manuel is 15 years old. And before you even ask, no, I can´t adopt them. In the US, the process of adoption must be started before the child turns 16, so in the US, these two are unable to be adopted. So why are they participating? Why am I bringing them here? In Hunter's words, every child deserves a home and a family for Christmas. And guess what! Even though they are not eligible for adoption, they ARE available to participate in an exchange program where they can come here and finish their high school degree! This could open so many doors and opportunities for these kids!

So, I hope you will follow us on this journey this holiday season! Please share our story. There are so many kids available for adoption AND a visa exchange program. Stay tuned and enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving holiday!
